1987 – 1992
In the 70s and 80s, tower cranes were efficient but lacking in mobility and capacity. This is what inspired Spierings to develop a user-friendly, mobile tower crane with a compact truck that could be assembled and dismantled around 15,000 times. This efficient crane would be just as mobile as the conventional telescopic crane, with a hydraulic system to fully automate the assembly and dismantling of the crane as a whole.
When Spierings was established in 1987, its main activity was servicing and overhauling existing cranes. Before long, Spierings built its first crane, the SK345-AT3, which incorporated all of their experience of other cranes. With a lot of hard work, the company grew and developed a good reputation.
1993 - 1999
Spierings continued to grow strongly throughout the 90s. Out of a start-up venture, Leo and Tiny Spierings created a fully fledged business that gradually made a name for itself at home in the Netherlands and abroad. New cranes followed: the SK477-AT4 in 1993, the SK365-AT3 in 1995 and then the SK598-AT5 in 1998, which proved to be Spierings’ international breakthrough. By the end of the 90s, Spierings had more than 60 employees and the company had literally outgrown its premises on Kantsingel in Oss.
2000 - 2003
In the year 2000, Spierings moved to its newly built factory on Merwedestraat in Oss. Tiny Spierings passed away suddenly in 2001. The company continued to develop and produced a new crane, the SK1265-AT6 Mighty Tiny, named in homage to Tiny, which has an as yet unrivalled radius of 60 metres.
2004 - 2010
In response to the huge demand for mobile tower cranes, the factory was expanded with two enormous halls. Four new models were also launched during this period, the SK498-AT4, the SK599-AT5, the SK2400-AT7 and the SK2400-R. By developing these cranes, the company further optimised ease of operation for crane drivers and fully automated the crane assembly process. The first prototype of the City Boy was presented at bauma 2010. This is the first three-axle mobile tower crane with a fully electric truck and hybrid drive in the crane.
2011 – 2014
Exports have continued to expand since 2011 and now make up the majority of the sales of Spierings cranes. The company continued to grow its market share abroad, with hybrid technology playing an increasingly important role in the development of Spierings cranes.
2015 – today
2015 saw the launch of the SK597-AT4, the fourth generation of the Spierings hydraulic mobile tower crane with four axles. The four-section jib of the SK597-AT4 is 48 metres long. In the autumn of 2017, Spierings celebrated its 30-year anniversary with the Spierings Summit. It was during this event that the SK487-AT3 City Boy was presented, and it was officially announced that nephew Koos Spierings had recently taken over the shares. Leo still plays an active part as CEO, with his focus fully on engineering and development. The 1000th Spierings crane rolled off the Oss production line in the summer of 2018. Koos Spierings was appointed CEO of Spierings Mobile Cranes in 2019.
