Anyone driving along the A9 between Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht will immediately notice it: a line of Spierings cranes rising high above the construction site. Under the direction of Rijkswaterstaat, the VeenIX consortium is widening the motorway to four lanes in each direction and adding a new reversible lane to improve traffic flow. Our Spierings cranes form an impressive skyline.
The work takes place in an area where time, space and traffic flow are constantly under pressure. This is exactly where Spierings cranes prove their value. On this stretch, they are deployed in large numbers by our customers Koninklijke Saan and Kuiphuis Kraanverhuur. Their expertise, combined with the capabilities of our cranes, ensures that assembly and lifting operations run smoothly and safely.
Why Spierings makes the difference here
The A9 clearly demonstrates what our cranes are built for: compact design, outstanding manoeuvrability, emission-free operation and a reach that other mobile cranes simply can’t match. Conditions on and around a motorway demand cranes that can do more than just lift. Spierings cranes stand out thanks to three essential qualities:
-
Cranes that are easy to relocate
Our mobile tower cranes can move quickly with each phase of the work, without requiring adjustments to the infrastructure. This means fewer preparatory steps, shorter setup phases and maximum flexibility in a location where every metre counts.
-
Emission-free construction with eLift technology
Some of the Spierings cranes used along the A9 are equipped with our eLift technology. This allows fully emission-free operation whenever a power supply is available, creating a quieter and cleaner construction site. Since 2023, every new Spierings crane is delivered with eLift as standard, marking a major step towards fully emission-free construction in the future.
Spierings has delivered only mobile cranes with eLift technology since 2023. This means fully emission-free lifting operations. The cranes can operate electrically all day long with just a 16-amp construction power connection. It creates a quieter, cleaner working environment and aligns perfectly with national ambitions for sustainable construction.
-
The right reach for every lifting task
With jib lengths ranging from 42 to 60 metres, the Spierings cranes along the A9 provide exactly the flexibility required for work above traffic lanes, viaducts and temporary structures. For the heaviest lifting tasks, the crawler crane offers the necessary power and stability.
This combination of reach, manoeuvrability and emission-free performance makes our cranes indispensable on complex infrastructure projects like the A9.

Building accessibility together
The widening of the A9 will significantly improve the future accessibility of the Randstad. We are proud that our cranes play such a prominent role in this project. It shows that Spierings is the preferred choice when efficiency, reliability and sustainability truly matter.
Together with our customers, we are building the construction site of the future.
